Dear Paisley at Two Months Old,
(Documentation from February 24-March 24th)
Where in the world is the time going? It seems like the months crawled before you came and now I can't seem to slow time down. Your presence in our home is amazing and you are adored by everyone. Even two months later, there is barely a time where one of your siblings doesn't beg to hold you or feed you and they are even getting braver about asking to change your diaper too. ;-) You are so sweet and such a great, good natured baby. We couldn't have asked for an easier child, especially at this time in life where Daddy is weeks away from becoming chief and the other four kids are busier than ever. Heavenly Father definately knew when to send you to our family.
I love to watch you sleep. We have been figuring you out more and more lately. It's getting easier to predict what your needs are and what your cries mean. You sleep about six hours straight at night and only wake up once for a bottle and go right back to bed (although that changed at the end of the month which I'll document next month). We know that you when you get sleepy, all you need is a binky and a blanket (just like your cousin Andrew!) and to snuggle with Daddy, me or the kids and you are out in seconds. You are a cuddler only when you sleep! The rest of the time you are bright eyed and so alert-always watching the world around you. In fact, that's what everyone says when they meet you if you are awake- "She is so alert". I have to agree!
I blogged about this a bit ago but you love to cuddle with the kids...especially Ethan. If I have to get dinner or help one of the other kids, all I have to do is place you in Ethan's arms and you fall right asleep. He truly adores you and will always be your protector if Dad and I can't be there.
My absolute favorite part of this month was right around six and a half weeks where you started smiling. I waited and waited daily since your birth to see that smile! And you don't just smile any smile, but HUGE old grins!!!! The first time we thought it was maybe a fluke, but then every day we'd see more and more smiles and now we see them many, many times a day. Your personality is seriously coming out and you are so happy! I love to imagine the joy that you will bring to our family. It's my favorite thing in the world to talk to you and get a grin back!
Here are some of your expressions....the second one on top is the face you make when we are talking to you and you are listening to our voices. You grin with your whole mouth and Daddy's dimple comes out!
This picture above was right when we first started noticing a "pleasant" look-right around six and a half weeks....you look so different now, I can't believe how little you look in this picture!
The smiles got better and better!! The pictures below are terrible quality, but it was at night and I had to force the lighting in manual speed just to quickly capture your first grins! The third one is my favorite...you were almost laughing there!
You can tell from all the different outfits that we see this pretty smile all the time!!
I meant to do this picture for your first month, but no matter how hard I tried there was never a good time. I was hoping to capture you by your "Build a Bear" that the kids made you a couple of days before you were born and take a picture with you by it each month to watch you grow, but the first month passed by so quickly. The day I took the pics below, you weren't in the best mood, but you were dressed so cute so I quickly snapped some pictures with your teddy for your second month. I wish they were better, but you started crying because you were tired so this was what we got. At least you can tell how big you are compared to Teddy! ;-)
Many people thought we were nuts, but right before you turned two months old, Daddy and I decided to drive our family across the country to Utah for Spring Break. That was 29 hours in the car-each way! Unfortunately you were too young for skiing, so Aunt Chelsea watched you during two different days but you were one good little girl on the trip. You would sleep, take a bottle, watch the kids for a while and sleep again on the trip. It was the perfect time to travel with you.
You met so many people and so many family members. You were able to meet many of your cousins who loved to hold you (Addy and Sophie), you met two great grandmothers, Grandpa Rasmussen (Daddy's dad), many aunts and uncles and our friends the Bowens. I tried to remember to get a picture of you with as many family members as I could.
Top Row: Great Grandma Rasmussen, Grandpa Rasmussen, Aunt Katelyn (my brother's wife), and Aunt Chelsea (my sister)
Bottom Row: Great Grandma Larsen (Grandma Rasmussen's mom), Aunt Whitney, Aunt Liz and Aunt Becca (all of Daddy's sisters). Aunt Becca found out she is having a baby girl in July!
I was so glad that you were able to meet so many family members on this trip, especially while you were still a newborn. I kind of wished we had waited to bless you until this trip, but back when we actually did, we had no idea we'd be making this trip. Anyway, I am so glad you got to meet so much family and that we were spontaneous and made the trip.
Here you are pictured with your newest cousin, Harlow, who's just three weeks younger than you to the day. His mom is Aunt Liz (Daddy's sister pictured in the pink above) and his Dad is Uncle Nathan. You guys are going to be good buddies I think.
Paisley we love having you in our family. I thank Heavenly Father every day he gave me the chance to be a mom again and that I had a gap between you and Karli so that I could really soak this up.
I hope you keep on on smiling and it's so fun to see you changing and growing each new day.
