Little Miss Beautiful here starts kindergarten in approximately four months. My heart is getting sad already.

I remember thinking when medical started it was going to be so long before we finished because by then Ethan would be in kindergarten. That time swiftly passed.
Then a few short years ago I remember thinking residency was going to take forever because by our last year Ethan would be a big old fifth grader (elementary school ends at fifth grade here) and our one year old would then be in kindergarten.
The time has come and I'm a bit emotional about this!! I've started getting the paperwork for all of the fifth grade things for next year-their graduation stuff, slideshow committees, etc. How can Ethan almost be finished with grade school? And that one year old I mentioned is turning five next week. Karli had her kindergarten screening a couple of days ago. She was so big and did so well! They said (even though she's still four) that she's completely ready. Sigh of relief.
I don't know what I'm going to do without this girl when she starts kindergarten. Luckily kindergarten is only half day so I still get to see her a lot and transition easier into first grade which will be all day. And since she's pretty much is raising Paisley all by herself, I'll still get her help with that. ;-)
I distinctly remember thinking this day, as I was filling out all the paperwork while she was back with the kindergarten teachers, that if Paisley wasn't in our lives I would seriously have been a big puddle of mush all over the floor. I don't think I would have been ready to be done just like that. Now, because of Paisley, I get a little break before we have anymore kindergartners again. A time to finish up the preschool years, play dates at the park, storytime and savor it a little longer.
I'm glad I still get to do this more because it is so darn cute!
I'll tell you another thing I'm not ready for...high school, girls/boys, dating, curfews etc. You think I wouldn't have to think about these things...yet.
But as we finished up Karli's screening, I got a message saying Ethan needed me to come down to his classroom (on the right) and sign a permission slip for a movband (more on that later). The door on the left was open though (haha...notice how in this picture it's closed...hmmm).
That's when our neighbor, also a fourth grader, spotted Karli from the classroom on the left and started saying, "Ahhh...Karli.....look how cute she is". Because there was a substitute in the classroom, he came out to the hallway and said, "Can I have a hug?". Good for Karli...she was skeptical. Then two more of Ethan's friends came out and said, "Karrrllliiii"! (Oh dear...red light!)
Somehow in five seconds the whole class ended up in the hallway trying to get Karli to hug them or say hi to them. (She's pretty much famous at the kids' school since she's been "going there" with me for five years now every time I had to do anything with that school.) The substitute was not happy with us. She ushered the class back into the classroom and said, "Hummph...bye Karli". Hahaha...whoops! How was I supposed to know that would happen?
That's when Ethan spotted us through his door and came out. Couldn't resist snapping a picture of the two of them. Can you tell how excited Karli was from all that attention??
It seems that every time we are around Ethan's friends, our girls get mauled and I'm not ready for this!! I'm going to have to ensure that Ammon lays down the law as they all get to be older and we have four teenagers in the house at one time. Yeah..I think I'll leave that all up to him. Maybe investing in a shotgun would be good. ;-)
When Ethan is 18, our three oldest girls will be 16, 15 and 13...boy oh boy.
For now though, I'm going to hold tightly to this innocence and enjoy them little while I can. Karli is so ready for this....I just have to make sure I am too.
