January Snow Fall

What is it about snow that is just so darn magical that it makes our kids jump out of their chairs, forget what they were in the middle of, abandon all reason and run outside barefoot in pajamas to go and enjoy it?

This day was no exception and we took full advantage of it.  It hadn't snowed really before this during this winter season and so when it became more than just dust on the ground, we bundled everyone up in snow clothes and I let them play and play for a couple of hours in the backyard.

Brynlee also had her friend Emma over for the afternoon too.

They played "GRINDERS", a game they made up where two workers would shovel snow onto the trampoline, and then the other two or three would be the grinders and get to jump on the "piles" of snow that had been tossed on.  I love their creativity and imagination with making up games...they get that all from Ammon, let me assure you.  He's always been so good about making any situation exciting, which is probably why he is the obvious "fun parent" in our home. ;-)  And I'm totatlly alright with that.  It makes me happy that I married someone wonderful who's a great dad.

I was determined that if this was the only snow of the season, we were going to get a snow picture in.  The kids were patient with me and let me practice taking their pictures on manual mode which I am still in the very early stage of learning.  But what I loved, was that while the lighting might not have been great in the pics, I didn't get too much of the "grey" snow look I usually get.  Again, so grateful too Ammon for this camera!

Look at that tooth coming in that hole!

A Grinder at work...

And this is "grinding" in action...see that tiny amount of snow she's headed for? The point was to make it grind into dust. LOL...and this seriously entertained them for a LONG time.

And this one will rarely give me a smile without something goofy attached....I won't make you suffer through the other ten he did during this time too....anything but a smile...he pulls face all the time now!  And serioulsy, he's the oldest....it should have gotten easier to get a picture, not harder!

And this one it's hard to get one not smiling...

And grassy snow angels in the making...well, they tried their best considering it was half grass/half snow... ;-)

And afterward, I heated up some homemade hot chocolate and popcorn and everyone warmed up again inside....not bad for an afternoon!
